Meltdown and Spectre—Major Computer Processor Vulnerability

A potential security vulnerability has been discovered that may affect all modern computer processors.  Known attacks utilizing the vulnerability are known as Meltdown and Spectre and could allow an attacker access to sensitive information.  Vendors are in the process of evaluating how this vulnerability affects their products and are releasing information as they determine scope and actions to be taken to mitigate.  Most mitigation efforts are utilizing operating system patches.  Some patches are being reported to have a performance impact on computing services.
