About Cameron

What led you to a job at Cerium Networks?
I’ve always had in interest in computers and technology from a young age. I built my first computer at 13 and continued to build/upgrade/refine my tech skills. I recently attended New Horizons Career Development course in late 2019 to early 2020. While going through the program, I was hired to teach the program to a batch of new students. Once I graduated, I continued teaching with the outlook of staying long-term, but then Covid-19 hit, and things went a little crazy and I got laid off as the company closed its doors for good. It was during this time that I found the Intake position at Cerium.

What is your favorite part of working in Technology?
Solving little problems until the thing your fixing starts working. I suppose the moment you could say, ‘I can use this’. Connecting things and seeing them work is fun and exciting. Taking simple parts and making them work together is always enjoyable.

Outside of technology, what is your dream job?
My dream job lies within technology. But if I couldn’t do that then maybe an author. I’ve always wanted to write a book.

What is your favorite thing about working at Cerium?
The keeping of each other’s backs. In other words, how people look out for one another. It’s not something that I am used to in most of the jobs I’ve held.

What do you do when you’re not at work?

Walk our dog, Sherlock (sometimes begrudgingly), play Magic: the Gathering, play computer games, watch some YouTube channels with my wife. I have a multitude of hobbies that I flit between when the fancy strikes me. I’ve sewn bags, woven chainmaille, read large book series, braided boondoggle, bound books, tried my hand at painting, written poetry (4 books on amazon), and others I’m sure I’m forgetting.

What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I don’t know if you would call it crazy, but I served a two-year mission to Honduras. Lived in country and spoke Spanish for that whole time. Best two years of my life.

What is something most people don’t know about you?
That I’m really quite introverted and mostly a homebody. Going out is not my thing. I’ve also never broken a bone.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?
I really enjoy Sci-Fi. So Star Wars, star trek, Firefly. I also enjoy a good comedy and some animated shows like Adventure Time, but I don’t really watch TV on a regular basis. I enjoy watching YouTube for the multitude of extraordinary creators that post some wonderful content. (GMM, Vlogbrothers, Alec Steele, SlowMoGuys, SmarterEveryDay, BecauseScience, Merchant, AlphaInvestments, Wintagatan, and so many others that I cannot name them all)

Who is your idol?
I strive to be like Jesus. I want to emulate his love and compassion to all. We cannot survive in this world without it.
